About Community and Collegiate Programming

Cary Center Community and Collegiate Programs are designed to meet the growing demand for educating, empowering, and equipping the next generation of nonprofit leaders. Through a range of dynamic offerings—including the in-person Nonprofit Training Series, monthly virtual programs, monthly Nonprofit Development Meet Ups, the Nonprofit Affiliate Program, Mix & Mingles, and other outreach initiatives—nonprofit professionals gain valuable networking opportunities and targeted professional development to support their growth as emerging leaders in the sector.


Position Overview

The Cary Center is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and community-minded student to serve as the Community and Collegiate Programs Intern. This position offers hands-on experience in nonprofit engagement, event coordination, marketing, and program management while supporting initiatives that strengthen nonprofit organizations.

The intern will play an active role in planning and promoting programs, coordinating events, managing communications, and supporting relationships with community partners, nonprofit leaders, students, and speakers. This internship is ideal for a student interested in nonprofit leadership, communications, event planning, public relations, or community engagement.

Through this experience, interns will gain valuable professional skills, expand their network, and contribute meaningfully to programs that support the nonprofit sector.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic marketing plans to increase awareness, participation, and engagement for Community and Collegiate programs and events. 
  • Create and manage engaging social media content and campaigns across multiple platforms to promote programs, events, and community initiatives.
  • Assist with event preparation, on-site logistics, and technical support to ensure successful program delivery and participant experience.
  • Collaborate with Cary Center staff to coordinate and execute workshops, trainings, networking events, and other community and collegiate programming initiatives.
  • Design promotional and informational materials using platforms such as Canva and collaborate with vendors to produce high-quality printed materials.
  • Communicate professionally with speakers, donors, nonprofit leaders, students, and community stakeholders regarding program logistics, scheduling, and event participation.
  • Provide on-site support during programs and events, including registration, guest assistance, setup and breakdown, participant engagement, and general event coordination.
  • Support ongoing outreach and relationship-building efforts with nonprofit organizations, campus partners, and community leaders.
  • Contribute ideas and creative solutions to enhance program effectiveness, audience engagement, and overall participant experience.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at a college or university.
  • Previous professional, volunteer, campus leadership, or internship experience preferred.
  • Availability to work approximately 30–40 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Ability to travel to program, training, and event locations as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and familiarity with design and communication tools such as Canva.
  • Experience with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Interest in nonprofit organizations, community engagement, or event management strongly encouraged.

Compensation

  • This is a paid internship. Interns who successfully complete the internship will receive a $1,000 stipend.
