Brand Identity Designer
Brand Identity Designer
Brand Identity Designer
Location: Remote
Position Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor
We’re looking for an exceptional Brand Identity Designer to become a long-term creative partner for our agency.
This isn’t a high-volume production role, and it isn’t a Canva position. We work with premium businesses that expect thoughtful, strategic branding, and we’re looking for someone who approaches identity design as a problem-solving exercise – not simply as an opportunity to create something that looks good.
Most months, we complete one to three branding projects, and we’re looking for a designer we can rely on for years to come. Brand identity and logo design will be your primary responsibility, but there may also be opportunities to support other graphic design projects.
About Us
We’re a full-service marketing agency that partners with premium service businesses across a variety of industries.
We believe the strongest brands are built through strategy, originality, and attention to detail. Every branding project begins with understanding the client’s business, audience, competitive landscape, and goals before a single concept is designed.
We’re looking for someone who shares that philosophy.
What You’ll Do
For each branding project, you’ll work within our established branding process.
We’ll provide a detailed creative brief, research, strategic direction, and any existing brand assets you need. From there, you’ll develop original concepts that communicate what makes the client’s brand distinct – not simply what industry the company is in.
We value collaboration throughout the process. We aren’t looking for someone who simply takes orders. We’re looking for a creative partner who asks thoughtful questions, contributes ideas, explains their recommendations, and enjoys solving branding challenges as part of a team.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Designing three original black-and-white logo concepts for internal review
- Explaining the strategic thinking behind each concept, including any symbolism that may not be immediately obvious
- Refining the selected concept through two rounds of revisions
- Developing three distinctive color palette options
- Refining the selected palette through the review process
- Creating a complete logo suite, including primary logos, secondary logos, submarks, icons, patterns, and supporting brand elements
- Preparing clean, organized final production files in all required formats
- Assisting with the creation of brand standards guides
- Occasionally supporting other graphic design projects as needed
What We’re Looking For
This role is for someone who loves branding, not someone who simply knows how to use design software.
Our ideal designer:
- Creates thoughtful, original work rather than relying on trends or familiar concepts that make every brand look alike
- Thinks strategically about branding and can clearly explain the reasoning behind design decisions
- Has exceptional typography, layout, and composition skills
- Understands how color, shape, visual hierarchy, and other design elements influence perception
- Can build a cohesive identity system rather than treating the logo as an isolated design
- Produces clean, organized, fully editable Adobe files
- Pays close attention to details
- Welcomes feedback and handles revisions professionally
- Asks thoughtful questions rather than making assumptions
- Communicates professionally and responds promptly throughout each project
- Manages deadlines consistently and communicates proactively when questions or challenges arise
- Enjoys collaborating as part of a creative team
- Is interested in building a long-term working relationship rather than completing one-off projects
We typically look for designers with at least five years of professional brand identity experience, although the quality of your portfolio and your approach to design matter more than years alone.
Experience working with premium brands, professional service businesses, home services companies, or high-end residential industries is a plus.
While this is a freelance position, we need someone who is responsive during active projects and can consistently meet agreed-upon deadlines.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work as independent contractors in the United States.
Software Requirements
You must be highly proficient in:
- Adobe Creative Cloud:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe InDesign
All logo work must be created as fully editable vector artwork using Adobe Illustrator.
Original Design Is Non-Negotiable
We believe our clients deserve branding that is completely original.
Because of that:
- Every logo must be an original design created specifically for the client.
- We do not accept AI-generated logos, logo generators, stock icons, template-based branding, or recycled concepts.
- We expect every design to demonstrate original creative thinking, strategy, and craftsmanship.
- All concepts must be appropriate for trademark review and distinguishable from existing brands.
Portfolio Required
A strong portfolio is required.
We’re much more interested in seeing a smaller collection of exceptional brand identity projects than dozens of average logos.
Show us work that demonstrates your ability to think strategically, develop original concepts, use typography effectively, and build cohesive visual identity systems—not simply decorate.
Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
Our Hiring Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a paid design test based on a real creative brief.
The test allows us to evaluate your design thinking, originality, communication, attention to detail, and ability to work within our established branding process.
The purpose of the test is not to obtain unpaid client work. Candidates selected to participate will be compensated for their time according to terms agreed upon before the project begins.
How to Apply
Please include the following with your application:
- A link to your portfolio. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
- Tell us which branding project in your portfolio you’re most proud of and why. Explain your thought process, the problem you were trying to solve, and the reasoning behind the final design.
- Start your application with the words “Original Design Matters” in your email subject line to info@heremollygirl.com so we know you read the entire posting.
- Tell us your preferred compensation structure. Let us know whether you prefer hourly or project-based work, your typical rate, and any minimum project fee you require.
- Tell us about your current availability. Approximately how many brand identity projects could you comfortably take on each month?
If you’re passionate about creating timeless, strategic brand identities and are looking for a long-term relationship with a creative team that values great design, we’d love to hear from you.
